Excuse the I’m a tool nature of the self shots, but decided to share my progress photos since it’s been a while since I put a set up.
Well there ya go, no weight since I don’t check the scale anymore but clothes are a little more roomy around the waist, tighter in the quads and shoulders as I’ve been putting some muscle on thanks to my adherence to The Outlaw Way.
First post about my first word over at my wordpress blog that I’m using to test stories out that I hope to use in a book about the last year.
Another week down here in PA and it was rather uneventful yet again. Seems like a theme these days. Over the weekend though things got interesting. Working at Johnstown there was a motorcycle rally in town so we had all sorts of bikes running around. Made me think yet again it’s time for me to buy another one. I’ll just put it on my list of things to buy when I have money again. Also this weekend Phish played near Pittsburgh. So I worked on Saturday, drove straight from work to the show, and then drove back so I could work my Sunday shift. Let me just say that the show was amazing. I really wish I could’ve done more shows but I’m responsible, and I guess responsible people don’t call in sick to work to drive to Cleveland to see another show the next day. Let me just say, that I’m not on board with this whole growing up thing. I want to be a bum for a while.
On the workout front we’re back into another week of fun times.
Vertical Snatch off High Blocks 5x3
Snatch Pulls 5x3
Heaving Snatch Balance 5x3
GHD raises 4x8 45# plate
Turkish Get Ups 4x3 35# dumbell
Overhead Squats @95#
Toes to Bar
Overall a good day in the gym
Here’s photos from this week:
Waiting for the show to start.
And the crowd goes….
Bike patrol, 25 miles.
Not bad for just having coffee while at the store. Buying food to batch for the week.
This is going right now, tomorrow it get’s roasted.
Well I just got back about an hour ago, put together some food so I have a lunch tomorrow, started a load of laundry and talked to the roommates for a bit. I’ll try to sum up my couple days off. In one word: Awesome. Sunday night after work I hit the gym real quick did Outlaw, and then booked it down to Richmond getting there about 12:30am. After talking for a few minutes and realizing how tired we were it was time to pass out. Monday we hit the ground running with a full day of stuff. Hitting up a few NPS such as Maggie Walker the park that my friend works at, and seeing the Confederate White House and the Museum of the Confederacy. This is what happens when Park Rangers get together I guess. After a full day of site seeing, some great Richmond food and a tour of the city the day was over. Today started off saying goodbye and having breakfast at a place called The Dairy Bar. Really cool place and a top notch omelet. Then on my own I hit up the Virginia State House, a very pretty building and I was off. Headed back I had one last detour that I couldn’t pass up. A stop off at Outlaw Crossfit, Rudy was really cool. I got there a half hour early and he was doing some work while his daughter hung out. We talked for a bit I changed and then it was time for the 4:15 WOD. A little strength and then the actual WOD and I was toast. I can tell that I’ve been working out on my own for two months. It’s amazing how much harder you push when you’re with other people, the 95F heat may have had something to do with it too. I capped out without finishing the work, but it was still a great day. Sunday was 11 months since I started Crossfit, hard to believe that in this short time I’ve lost over 125 pounds, and gained amazing confidence in my fitness and lifting abilities. Before leaving I got a picture with Rudy, and it’s hard to believe that this is what I look like now.
And this was a short 11 months ago:
A big thanks to Rudy, I hope that I can get back down for another WOD with you and the crew really enjoyed myself today. A second big thank you to the man for programming The Outlaw Way, the blog has been my guidebook to self programming these last two months. While I often feel like I’m talking a shot to the boys when I try to figure out how to make the program work for me, my abilities have grown in leaps and bounds and not a week goes by that I’m not getting some new PR in either Snatch or Clean and Jerk. I owe you more than this short post can express, big thanks for the work and it was great to meet you in person.
A few other shots:
This is it, my last week in Springfield.
It feels weird to say it but in just a few days I’ll be leaving town and starting on a new adventure. In this last year my life has seen a huge amount of change.
-started the paleo diet
-ran my own classroom
-Lost 125 pounds
-Licensed to teach Social Studies 6-12 in Illinois
-Bought my first gown up car that cost more than $2000
-Made an amazing group of Crossfit Friends
-Competed in the open
-Did my first pull up, strict pull up, learned to do all sorts of crazy and fun strongman stuff
-Got two awards for my work as a Park Ranger
-Lost a job at a park due to budget, but found a new job at a new park.
-Worked for a short time at Starbucks.
-Spent New Years in NYC with some amazing people
And way too much other things to list.
I’d like to thank all the great people that I’ve met here, and I hope that we will see eachother again soon. I guess sometime soon I’ll have to change the name of this page into something that reflects what I’m doing now until then thanks for keeping up with me and I hope that you will use this to see how my journey continues in the rest of 2012 and beyond.
I’m going to say right now that March is a great month. I hit the ground running with Open WODs, seeing the family and having my graduation party where I cooked Paleo for everyone that came. I’m not at the top of the leaderboard for the open but I’m doing ok, both WODs have seen me around the number that I expected to be, and while I would like to see a few more reps for each effort I have to say that I’m happy just to be beating some people and not dead last. I’ve also been playing with some Paleo cooking, thinking that maybe I should share some of these here. Eventually some will make it up but for now a few pictures from the last few days. Including an update shot of me in the work uniform which makes me look pretty buff.
Nice outside today so the Wod included some running. Great to get into the box on a Wednesday and do a workout, I’ve been putting in overtime at work and getting in a good workout in the morning just makes everything feel better. To follow the WOD up with a taste test of a paleo cake that will make an appearance for my birthday next week and some coffee before having lunch with a good buddy just keeps the day going.
Here’s today’s WOD:
Complete 3 rounds for time:
- 21 Toes-2-Bar
- 400m Run
- 21 Sumo-Deadlift High Pulls (95#/65#)
- 400m Run
I modified and did 85# and did toes to bar till I couldn’t hit them anymore, did 10 unbroken in the first set, 6 in the second, and 4 in the third. Then switched to knees to elbows to finish it off. Overall I’m pretty happy with my results, finished in 24:30. With the warmup it was just shy of 2 miles of running today.
Last night I did some food prep, here’s the results:
Pumpkin Bread, really good, divided up into 24 pieces it’s 110 cal each but I have a feeling I’ll be doubling up on portions.
Egg Muffins, only partially successful, taste pretty good but they still need some work.
Good first week, I started the new job and it’s giving me a sense of purpose. Going along with that it was a good week of crossfit and I had some fun even with some pretty rough WODs. There are really only two issues that I can think of for this week. First is that Dad is still struggling with the infection in his hand. He had to go back into the hospital to have his hand opened up again so that they can try and get the infection out. The second is that because of all the work I’ve been doing my training has required me to task a lot of the drinks I’ve been making. Most of it was one sip each but you make enough of those drinks in a day and it adds up. I hope that as I get further along I won’t have as many issues with staying paleo at work. Here’s some pictures from this week.
Post workout face, and yes I did bring out Beast Mode for that WOD
broke my parallettes so I had to build new ones.
New shake recipe, One banana, five strawberries, 1/2 cup Coconut Milk and ice. Delicious.
